4 Common Landscaping Mistakes (Avoid Number 2!!!)

August 28, 2018Graham Saunders

Spending as little as 5% of your home’s value on landscaping could yield a return on investment (ROI) of as much as 150%. If you’re thinking about making some landscape improvements this year, it’s important that you are being extremely careful so you’re not damaging your property or spending more than you should.

Here are some of the biggest landscaping mistakes that property owners often make:

    • Starting with a complicated landscape plan — Though you might have all kinds of grandiose landscaping plans for the future, it’s best to start small with a basic plan. Take a long, hard look at your property and narrow down the two or three landscaping projects you want to finish this year. You might only get to one of them, but that’s fine. Starting and finishing one outdoor project is much more productive than attempting to start five or six but never finishing anything.

    • Ignoring weeds — You should never allow weeds to continue to grow on your property. Weeds should not be part of your garden or backyard at all. Neglecting weeds mean you’re going to have a messy, overgrown, and unhealthy property. Weeding isn’t the most fun outdoor project you can do, but it’s an essential part of homeownership. Take a look at your property and rid your yard of all those unwanted weeds.

    • Pruning shrubs at the wrong time — Another common mistake when it comes to landscape care is pruning shrubbery at the wrong time. Failing to prune a shrub such as forsythia at the correct time could end up damaging the plant and remove the buds that produce the actual blooms.

    • Not picking a color scheme — Too much green is perfect for a rainforest, but not a backyard. Conversely, too many random colors can look terrible. Just like you would for picking out colors for your home’s interior, you should do the same for your landscaping.

If you want to learn more about how to effectively make some property improvements without making any of these mistakes or work with barkdust specialists in Vancouver, Washington, give Barkdusters a call right away!
